OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE

Bereavement Care

In the event of the passing of a loved one of a Christ Community member or members, assist with follow-up to that member(s) via prayer, phone calls, preparation of Resolution, sending of cards/flowers/plants on behalf of Christ Community, and in some cases when available, attendance at local funeral services.

Note that this is follow-up the is more immediate to the passing. For longer-term follow-up, see Broken Hearts Connection led by Denise Bonzon within the overall Congregational Care & Counseling ministries.

Congregation "Wellness" Phone Calls
Christ Community's Congregational Care Ministry is responsible for "wellness" phone calls to each member of Christ Community on at least an annual basis. These telephone calls are designed to find out on a personal basis how our members are doing, important events in their lives (either good or bad), and to provide a personal connection. Major issues are to be shared with the Director of Congregational Care will be share with Christ Community's senior leadership where appropriate.

Members of this team will be assigned a certain number of members to call each month so that in coordination with other team members, all Christ Community members receive a "wellness" call at least once a year.

Hospital Visitation
The hospital visitation team visits Christ Community members when hospitalized to provide an in-person touch and prayer. These hospital visits should be no more than 15 minutes and only are done with the advance permission of the member.

Congregation Phone Calls for Specific Life Events
As assigned by the Director of Congregational Care, make phone call to Christ Community members in specific life events such as sickness, health challenges of a member's loved one, job layoffs, etc. - or in the case of positive events such as graduations, birth of a child, and engagement announcements.

6. Ability to keep confidentiality (with the exceptions to confidentiality laws, usually including child or elder abuse, and danger to self and/or others)
7. Psychological/emotional stability
8. Empathetic
9. Compassion through personal life experiences
10. Active listening skills
11. Willingness to pray aloud with others
